Virginia English Goldens Puppy Adoption Process

This page has information about our Puppy Adoption Process, what we do and provide, the steps for families to take to adopt a puppy, and so on.

Every Virginia English Golden Puppy is provided love, veterinarian care, socialization and group and individual playtime. They will be showered with love and cuddles from the moment they are born till the day they go to their forever homes. Virginia English Goldens has a procedure for adopting, picking, and getting your English Golden Retriever Puppy to you. We are often asked what this procedure is like or what is the next step after deciding you want a Virginia English Golden puppy.  Here are more information to share with you – we hope you find it helpful.

Puppy Adoption Getting Started:

  • If you are interested in a puppy, please fill out the inquiry form.

  • This helps us know more about you and what you are looking for in a puppy.

  • Read our contract so that you know what we are mutually agreeing upon and entering this agreement together.

  • Once you decide you would like to move forward with getting a Virginia English Golden puppy, we will send you an email with pertinent details. This email will include the instructions for sending your $500 non-refundable deposit.

  • Payment in full may be sent by mail in the form of a certified check or by cash at time of pick-up.

Time to Pick Your Puppy:

We take pictures and videos of the puppies while growing up and update them on our FB Page or website as often as possible.  We reserve the right to keep any puppy from a litter for our breeding program. Once we have selected puppy/puppies for our program, the rest will be available for puppy selection in the order the deposits were received.

We are available by phone or email to answer any detailed questions you may have to help match the right puppy for you and your family. We will contact the families for their puppy selection between 6-8 weeks**, and it is important that you are available during those times so you get to pick your puppy in a timely manner. Otherwise the next family in the order will be contacted.

While you pick your puppy around 6-8 weeks, remember — Puppies don’t go to their new homes until 8-9 weeks of age.

**NOTE:

From time to time, we get puppies from our partner Whitegold Goldens that are older than 8 weeks of age and offer for adoption. We guarantee all the puppies receive the same level of care and love and socializing, and all the parents are tested and cleared for health.

As much as we would love to have you come to our home and meet our adult dogs and pick up the puppy from our home, we have decided that it is best and safest for both us and you to meet at a neutral location. Especially for the health of our puppies and dogs, we want to limit the outside contact as much as possible. We ask for your understanding in this matter.

We will meet at a most convenient location for puppy pick up.

In order to best work around our schedule as well as the new family’s that are picking up, we have found it beneficial to schedule a time to pick up your puppy that accommodates both our schedules. We know you are excited to pick up your new puppy and want to give you our undivided attention to share information about your puppy with you. This works great when families arrive on time because when we have more than one excited family and puppy, it can create a bit of chaos.

We are CLOSED Friday afternoons after 3 pm and all day Saturdays. No puppy pick up on these days.

AKC registration paper, original shot records, worming schedule etc. will be provided at the time of pick-up or mailed to you if they are not available at the time of pickup.

Puppy Delivery/Meeting you:

We are happy to work out a schedule to deliver the puppy and meet you if possible. Charges for meeting will be calculated based on mileage and how many families we are meeting. If we have a few puppies in a litter that are going in the same direction, we will work on a delivery schedule and meet you to get your puppy.  Again, these charges will be based on mileage and will be calculated for each individual family.

Shipping Your Puppy:

We only want to ship your puppy to you as a last resort.  Airlines are continually changing their requirements, so we cannot guarantee being able to ship the puppy to you.

If shipping your puppy, you will be provided with a crate and toy in order to provide cozy comfort for your puppy while traveling.

AKC registration paper, original shot records, etc. will be mailed separately and should arrive within few weeks (depending on location) after you receive your puppy.

While we try very hard to accommodate each family’s schedule, please keep in mind that we are trying to coordinate many families, in many different areas.  We ask that families be flexible and willing to work with us to get their puppy to them. Your cooperation with this is MUCH appreciated.

Additional Information About Our Puppy Adoption Process:

Your English Golden Retriever Puppy has been raised on Victor Premium Dog Food or similar premium quality puppy food after it has been weaned from the mother. In order to keep stress to a minimum during transitioning to a new home, we recommend not switching dog foods. We feel this is so important that we provide you with a bag of Victor Premium dog food when the puppy goes home. If you wish to switch to a different, other high quality dog food, please do so after the puppy has been settled in your home and well adjusted to the new routine and environment, and still do so gradually under the advise of your vet.

**PLEASE NOTE:

If you are unable to take your puppy when they are ready to go to their new home, please contact us for options and availability of them being able to stay longer.  There will be an additional charge for this arrangement. We are happy to work with families, but depending on the number of puppies we are taking care of, travel schedule for meeting families etc., there are times we are not able to extend their stay, so previous arrangements must be made.

If you have additional questions, please email us, or call us at 540-400-2408.
